Disclaimer: As you read in the title, this is a recipe blog. I am just sharing my version of the recipe for chilli mushroom. If you would like to make it in some other way you like, you can definitely try it.
I love cooking but somehow I had just stopped cooking for myself. Lately, I have started cooking again. I do it every day for me and my family. Now that I have started again, I am loving it and having a lot of fun eating tasty food. Also, it is a great way to pass your time productively.
So, recently I tried making chilli mushrooms. Let’s be honest, under the guidance of my mother. It turned out to be great. It’s a very simple recipe, if you are ready with your ingredients, it won’t take you more than 20mins.
Here are all the ingredients I used with their measurements. These measurements serve two people. So, increase the amount accordingly. I will be telling the measurements in layman’s language. So, that you don’t get trouble interpreting the measurements in grams.
Button Mushroom – 5 pieces (I had got a packet of them. Each pack has around 10 of them, I used half of it)
Onion – 1 whole onion
Green Bell Pepper – ¼ of a whole pepper
Garlic – 4 cloves
Green Chilli – 1 whole chilli
Corn Starch – 1 tablespoon
Salt – according to your taste
Red Chilli Powder – 1 teaspoon
Turmeric Powder – ½ teaspoon
Tomato Ketchup – 2 to 3 tablespoon
Chilly Sauce – 1 to 2 tablespoon
Soy Sauce – ½ tablespoon
All the above measurements are an average measurement according to my tastebuds. You can increase or decrease the amounts according to your taste. Also, if you feel like using some extra ingredients then you can definitely do so unless and until it tastes good.
Now that I have told you the ingredients, let’s move to the procedure. I will be telling you the cooking procedure in steps so that it’s easy for you to follow.
Step 1: Wash the mushrooms, get rid of any dirt or the sand. Cut the stem of the mushroom, so that it sits flat on your chopping board. Now, cut them into quarters.
P.s. If you are new to cooking, quartered mushrooms are easy. Cut through the mushroom vertically and horizontally. You will have your quartered mushroom.
Step 2: Cut the ¼ bell pepper into cubes. Make it the size you like to eat. Once done with the bell pepper, move to the garlic. Garlic is easy, just chop it.
Step 3: Time to marinate the mushroom. Take your mushrooms in a bowl. Add cornstarch power to it along with chilli powder and turmeric powder. Give it a good mix. Do it with soft hands as we don’t want to crumble our mushrooms.
Step 4: It’s time to fry the mushroom before cooking it in the sauce. So, if you are a healthy eater who doesn’t like too much oil then you can shallow fry the mushroom. If you don’t mind oil, just the taste matters then deep fry it. In both the cases fry it till it gets golden brown. If you are wondering about me, unlike my sister I deep fried it.
Once your mushrooms have cooled down a bit, go for step 5.
Step 5: Put some oil in a pan and let it heat. Then add the onions, garlic and chopped green chillies. Turn the flame into medium heat. Give it a good stir till the onions get transparent. Once the onions have come to that translucent stage, add the bell peppers.
Step 6: It’s time to spice it up. Once you start getting that beautiful smell of bell pepper cooking, add the tomato ketchup, soy sauce and chilli sauce. Give it a good stir and add the fried mushroom to it.
Step 7: Cook it for a minute and remove it in a bowl.
Your minimalistic, delicious chilli mushrooms will be ready to eat. I just wanna say, just be careful while chopping and cooking. For those, you will be cooking for the first time, step aside when you add something to the oil, stir it from a distance.
Also, these days I have been trying a lot of new recipes. I have made authentic Indian khichdi and Kadhi. I also tried a very easy to make fruit custard. Stay tuned to see some yummy recipes.
